Bio
Mexican soprano Mariana Valdés has gained recognition with her captivating voice and compelling stage presence. Her career has primarily spanned across Mexico, Canada, and Italy.
Her training began at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music in Canada, and then the Vancouver Academy of Music, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with a specialization in Vocal Performance. Her passion for opera took her to Italy, where she studied with Renata Scotto at the prestigious Opera Studio of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and the College Teatro at the Venice Theatre Biennale.
Throughout her career, Mariana has performed at prestigious venues, theatres and festivals, and collaborated with renowned artists. Notable performances include her portrayal of Susanna in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" in Vancouver, her portrayal of Adina in Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore" at the Vocal Arts Festival in Edmonton, and her portrayal of both Mimì and Musetta in Puccini's "La Bohème" in Termoli and Bologna, in Italy. More recently, she has sung the title role in Wolf-Ferrari’s il segreto di Susanna” in Brescia and Modena. She also has extensive experience as a recital artist and as a soloist of sacred music.
Mariana's artistry has earned international recognition with a series of awards, including first prize at the International Singing Competition of Trujillo in Peru, the International Singing Competition of Città di Penne, and winning the role of Mimì in G. Puccini's 'La Bohème' at the Arturo Pessina Lyric Competition, Città di Garlaso. In 2023 she won the role of Clorinda in Rossini’s ‘La Cenerentola’ at the Taranto Opera Festival Competition. She has also received numerous prizes in other international singing competitions in Mexico and Italy.
In April 2024, Mariana made her debut at the prestigious Bellas Artes with the National Opera Company in Mexico, singing the lead role in the world premiere of the opera ‘El Vencedor Vencido’ by Mexican composer Federico Ibarra, under the baton of Maestro Iván López Reynoso. Later this year, she will perform the opera ‘La Voix Humaine’ at the Teatro di Villa Mazzacorati in Bologna, Italy.
In July 2024, she garnered widespread acclaim as a soloist with the renowned Arpeggione Orchestra in Hohenems, Austria, receiving high praise from critics and achieving significant success with Austrian audiences.
Her talent and ability to captivate through her performances distinguish her as a soprano of remarkable promise on the international stage.
